Tai Chi Classes

Sharing Skills – Knitting and Crochet

There is a small informal group who gather at the Purple Possum in St Marys on Monday afternoons to knit, crochet, chat and of course drink coffee.  The group is about  supporting local businesses and sharing skills and ideas in a non judgmental environment.  Get out of the house on a cold winter’s day and keep some traditional skills alive and well in this wonderful community.  Just at present some members of the group are involved in the 5000 Poppies project to commemorate the Anzac Centenary but that is by no means the only thing going on so anyone with a spare hour can join in.  You don’t have to be able to knit or crochet – come along and learn how . . . the ability to chat and drink coffee while not a prerequisite is a help.

Keep Fit Program

St Helens Sports Complex every Monday and Thursday Evening from 5 pm til 6pm.  All abilities; age no barrier; have fun whilst exercising; easy to use equipment; exercise at own level; get fit gently; tone up your body.

Discussion re …

 Facebook

Thanks to Brittany for setting it up. Feel there is a need to make it viewable by the public. It is important that any notices that go onto Facebook, go on the website too as not everyone has Facebook or wants to join that forum. Nev will talk to Brittany.

 Website

Nev moderates the web site and its working well. Thank you Nev.

36 people currently “follow” the web site and get automatic emails whenever there is a new post.

Nev will email again the 16 people who are not currently signed up to “follow” and remind them how to do it.  Over 1,000 hits so far from 23 countries.  How to build a poly tunnel is the most popular link.  Invited the Community kitchen to write something about their activities  for the web page.

 Library of Resources

Helen followed up at the St Helens library re having a section for sustainable living but it does not seem to be an option for now.  Suggestion that if people have books they are willing to share, we make a bibliographical list, with whom to contact to borrow a book you would like to read.

 100 Mile Dinners

Are going well. Topics are being introduced for discussion. Last week was about compiling a directory of local growers. When all the information is gathered it will be put onto the website. Next dinner is 10th August and the subject will be, soils – fertilizers – manures etc.

The will be an open garden at Rubenach’s with picnic instead of the October dinner, further details will be posted when finalised.

 Polly reported that

A Landcare conference will be held in St Helens the 1st week in October.  Plus there is talk of some kind of Spiritual Living Expo in November. He will find out more and possibly we could have a table at that expo.  Polly will write something for the website

Plastic Free Break O’Day

Transition Break O’Day will write a letter supporting them to apply for funding to show the film “Bag It”.  Hannah and Trish will arrange a meeting to get the St Helens and the St Marys groups together.

Money

Nev will continue to hold the money for the group, which includes some money from the original Roadshow donations and the gold coins being collected when we meet.  At some stage we may need to become a more formal group and open a bank account.  Current balance $75.10.

Get Active Group

At their next meeting are making “Pumpkin Bags” a great alternative instead of plastic shopping bags

Jane Austen Festival

A costume making  workshop is planned.  A notice will be published with details when available.

Next  meeting will be at Scamander on Tuesday 10th September.

Polly will book the venue and bring the tea and coffee box. Nev will send out the notice for the meeting and collate the agenda items.

We will show the movie “Gasland” at that meeting.

Nev will make a flyer for the Coastal Column and Valley Voice which can also be put up in the local shops.

TransBOD Meeting and Movie – Tuesday 16th July

The next meeting of Transition Break O’Day will be at 6.00pm on Tuesday 16th July at the St Mary’s Hall Supper Room.  Send agenda items to transbod@gmail.com or feel free to bring any issues along on the night.

Bring a plate of supper to share.  We will be screening the film “Do The Math” after the meeting.  This is a fast-paced and inspiring film about the rising movement to solve the climate crisis. It runs for 45 minutes.

As a reminder why Transition Break O’Day is important watch this message from Bob Hopkins, founder of Transition Towns.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the night.
